Tattoo Takeoff

Who writes this

This annoyed me enough to build this site.

My name is Skip Beckett. I have no medical background and I don’t have any relationships with tattoo removal clinics. So why Tattoo Takeoff? Because I was researching tattoo removal and pretty much everything and everyone I came across had some sort of financial stake in the answers they were giving me. This annoyed me enough to build this site.

It’s important you know that nothing here is medical advice. That’s for the doctors and providers to give. What is here is my summary of published research, studies, FDA documentation, and the dermatology guidance that’s out there. And every source I use is linked so you can check on it if you’d like.

Just as transparency is the literal reason this site exists, I also need to hold myself to that standard and share how I craft the articles. One, I do the research and source-checking. Two, I use AI tools to put it all together and get a rough draft. And three, I rewrite and fact-check to get to the final draft you read. Sometimes this process varies depending on my schedule (Life, right?), but nothing gets published without everything being double and triple-checked for accuracy. In the end, accuracy is why I’m here.

Tattoo removal affects how people feel about themselves and, more often than not, it’s about a decision that was made years ago. I hope this site helps you with your decisions now.

My independence

Tattoo Takeoff is an independent site run by me. I’m not a clinic, I don’t perform or sell removal, and I don’t represent any provider. Nobody pays me to recommend a particular clinic, laser, or product. What’s here is meant to help anyone looking into tattoo removal.

How I research

Sources I use
  • +Peer-reviewed studies (PubMed Central)
  • +FDA documentation
  • +American Academy of Dermatology
  • +Academic medical centers
  • +Government health agencies
What I don’t rely on*
  • Clinic and medspa websites
  • Device manufacturer marketing
  • Commercial health aggregators
  • Any source with a sales incentive

* The one exception is when the company itself is the source of a fact, like an FDA clearance or a laser’s specs, I’ll link to it. I still check what the independent research says about it.
